Pine Tree Players

ABOUT US

Our HISTORY

Since 1978, Pine Tree Players has brought community theatre to the Bow Valley with ambitious productions that showcase the talent of local actors, directors, and designers. Our performances are created and performed by people you know and care about, making every show a true community effort.

Each season, we challenge ourselves to do more to celebrate the diverse talents of the Bow Valley and reach more people in ways that matter. And each season, we’re met with resounding applause.

Our Amazing Board Members

Our board members are the backbone of our organization. They bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the table, and are committed to making a positive impact in our community.

Jen Tweddell

President
She/Her

Jen has been an avid theatre-goer all her life but she didn’t discover community theatre until she moved to Canmore in 2015. She got involved with Pine Tree Players after her partner Jeremy was cast in a play and has never looked back. Jen is passionate about building community and is constantly in awe of the talent and creativity of folks in the Bow Valley. When she’s not producing plays or chairing board meetings you can find Jen out on her bike or cross country skiing.

Pauline Martin

Vice President
She/Her

Pauline’s involvement in the arts spans over 35 years, having worked at the Banff Centre for that period of time in various administrative capacities – visual arts program coordinator and assistant manager; special projects liaison for the president’s office and board of governors; employee relations in HR. She served on the board of Banff’s first environmental theatre company, Precipice Theatre (and emerged from the administrative shadow to act in a production that toured Alberta venues) and on the artsPlace board as a director and as president. Pauline has been a loyal fan of Pine Tree Players since the ‘90s and is delighted to serve as vice-president of the PTP board.

Marilu Adams

Secretary
She/Her

Marilu was born in Montreal, raised in the UK and came back to Canada for a ski season in 1993, and settled into a career in tourism while raising a family in Canmore and is still here! Theatre has been a part of her life from an early age and Marilu joined Pine Tree Players as an actor in 2014. She has starred in productions in a variety of roles and enjoys bringing comedy to the stage. Starting as a volunteer for Front of House and helping with event coordination, Marilu joined the board as Secretary in 2020 and supports the Board and all productions in some way or another, whenever she can. She is proud of the achievements made by the Board in the last 5 years and the impact that community theatre can have locally.

Sherry

Sherry Thompson

Treasurer
She/Her

Sherry has been splitting her time between Canmore and Calgary since 2013. She appeared in her first PTP production in 2018, and recently added directing to her list of talents. With a background in accounting, it seemed only natural to answer the call when the board was seeking a new treasurer. Sherry hopes to keep providing Bow Valley residents and visitors with entertaining, quality theatre.

Tangle McClaron

Tangle Mcclaron

Director
She/Her

A theatre kid at heart, Tangle delights in the many hats she gets to wear: puppeteer, designer, actor, musician, educator, coffee addict and Pine Tree Board member. She has been on stage and behind the scenes for a number of PTP productions and delights in the fun, creativity and community that is fostered in every show. Tangle’s passion for theatre has taken her from childhood community theatre stages through a diploma in Musical Theatre, to the fields of Bread and Puppet Theatre and back to the mountains and stages of Canmore where she makes didactic musical theatre with Alberta Parks and whimsical acts of puppetry with her company Entangled Puppetry.

Cheryl Naylor

Cheryl Naylor

Director
She/Her

Cheryl is a versatile performer, which has enabled her to enjoy a colourful career within the industry so far. She has enjoyed contracts as a character and parade performer at Disneyland Paris over the past several years, “bringing the magic of Disney to life has been a highlight”. She has recently returned from Helsinki where she was on board the Viking fleet as a magician and puppeteer.

Maxine Bennet

Maxine Bennett

Director
She/Her

Maxine’s first appearance in musical theatre was as Rebel Boy in her middle school’s production of The Nifty Fifties. She has since studied drama at the University of Calgary, traveled the province as an Artist in Residence for Quest Theatre, and performed many educational musicals. She has called Canmore home for several years now, and is the creator and co-owner of Banff Canmore Ghost Walks.
